Hi! Jean Russell here to serve you some organiblog. We each come to organics through some inspiration. I look forward to discovering your inspired organic story. I’ll share mine first.
I was born in Normal, IL. Really. Normal. Our house rested in a hill surrounded by trees and prairie. My parents tried to live sustainably. We gardened and canned. We had an orchard. My Dad built our house. We avoided chemicals. We had no garbage service, so we recycled. We heated the house with a wood-burning fireplace and never had air-conditioning. We left a small footprint on the planet then.
However, I did eventually grow up, move out, and discover TV dinners, fried food restaurants, and other decadent lifestyle choices like air conditioning. It wasn’t until I was pregnant that I really focused on good health. And the last several years, I have wanted to give my children a taste of the goodness of my own childhood. Tomatoes straight off the vine. Apples right from the tree. Recently we ventured out to the old farm and picked fresh black raspberries. We took a picnic, although the kids mostly ate berries. Ah, those thorny bushes full of black liquid goodness warmed by the summer sun. I brought home extra and froze them for smoothies. Yummm. Real food, unburdened. Now, I’m organic. I mostly eat organic food and try to live an organic lifestyle. A good planet is important to me, for my children.
I want my children to grow up eating untainted veggies. I want them to know the pleasure of eating food they cared for, learning the patience of a gardener. I want to live a long and healthy life so I can watch them grow and thrive. I want them to understand the cycles of abundance in nature and how they can play an organic role within the cycles and systems of our world.
Each time I buy organic, I am putting my money toward a good planet. A more organic planet. Are you? Tell a friend.
