My daughter looked at our calendar and moaned, ” I need to make an appointment for this interview but I just have no time.” No time, this from a seventeen year old girl. Where has our time gone in America? And what does this have to do with an organic and sustainable lifestyle?
The Take Back Your Time project asserts that people who are busy are less likely to recycle and more likely to use convenience and disposable items. Busy Americans tend to spend a lot more time in their cars than our European counterparts. These two things add up to a negative impact on our planet. Simplicity is key to helping us slow down. It’s time for us all to reassess our lifestyles for our own health and the planet’s health.
How are you going to take back your time?

Funny you should ask! I just spent two days sorting things to reduce the clutter in my home, among other things; to take back my time! Having so much “stuff” just takes too much time to babysit it all!! I joined my local Freecycle group and am compiling lists of things to offer there. On another note, quite by accident I discovered that the children’s karate teacher is going back to school for his Master’s this summer, so nix the karate obligation during the summer!! Halleluyah! I have also taken to walking absolutely everywhere I don’t need a car to go in, to. The children love it! We have been walking to karate class, to the library, to the store if I can handle what I need to get. (We do not live in town!) My dh has also agreed to reduce his expenses and workload so we can spend more time together with the family. He will no longer work on Sundays unless it is an emergency and we have committed one Sunday a month to going on a family “discovery” trip. Our first one is to Boalsburg, PA to see the Columbus museum and the military museum there. We already eat dinner together as a family almost every single night, so that takes care of waste attributed to eating out or convenience foods. I am really more dedicated to preparing whole foods, organic and/or locally grown (which most of our local growers are very concientious about pesticides, GMO, BGH, etc. already. So, all in all, we are paring down, reducing outside commitments and trying to live a healthier lifestyle!

Great topics on this site, really get you to think and learn!
