We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. This book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.

I felt very LIW this week as I cut our old towels into small pieces to be used for cleaning instead of throwing them away!

So a funny thing about this plaque … it is sort of, um, not quite right.

A few weeks ago, I read an amazing quote from The Organic Sister. But I read it incorrectly. I thought it said, “Create a home where love and acceptance drips from the walls and hangs from the ceiling.”

And it just STUCK. You know how that happens.

And I started imagining … I imagined that place. And I liked it a lot.

And then I thought about the word create in that sentence. And it felt so powerful. Somehow, I hadn’t thought about that word in that way before, that you can literally make a home that is such a safe and positive place to be, and that it doesn’t matter where you came from or how things were done or anything  — You can start today, to create a home where love and acceptance is palpable.

Like right there. All the time.

And so I made this little plaque.

Except the thing is, I read the actual quote wrong. Tara (the Organic Sister), who is such an amazing inspiration, actually wrote, “Create a home where love and acceptance drips from the walls and clings to the skin.”

So, yeah … Sort of different. (Barely even close, that last part.)

But I think it worked out.

In this place of love and acceptance, I’m sure it did.
